چکیده

The main reason behind the complexity of codingdecoding scheme is the randomness in the source or channel noise. We model source or channel noise as pseudo-random to study the limitation of coding-decoding schemes in the presence of an adversary. In this adverserial model, we characterize the limitations of computationally bounded source and channel coding-decoding schemes in terms of classical Information theoretic quantities such as shannon capacity and entropy. It is well-known that from a small amount of truly random bits, a very large amount of pseudo-random bits can be generated (under certain hypothesis). Subsequently, we find that in our adverserial model with computationally bounded schemes, the channel capacity becomes arbitrarily smaller compared to the classical shannon capacity or compressible source becomes incompressible. As a byproduct, our results will lead to novel (negative) characterization of pseudo-random generators.

Designing Networks Incrementally

We consider the problem of incrementally designing a network to route demand to a single sink on an underlying metric space. We are given cables whose costs per unit length scale in a concave fashion with capacity. Under certain natural restrictions on the costs (called the Access Network Design constraints), we present a simple and efficient randomized algorithm that is competitive to the mini...

A Simple Lower Bound on the Noncoherent Capacity of Highly Underspread Fading Channels

Communication channels are said to be underspread if their coherence time is greater than their delay spread. In such cases it can be shown that in the infinite bandwidth limit the information capacity tends to that of a channel with perfect receiver Channel State Information (CSI). This paper presents a lower bound on the capacity of a channel with finite bandwidth, expressed in a form which i...

The Error Probability of Sparse Superposition Codes with Approximate Message Passing Decoding

Sparse superposition codes, or sparse regression codes (SPARCs), are a recent class of codes for reliable communication over the AWGN channel at rates approaching the channel capacity. Approximate message passing (AMP) decoding, a computationally efficient technique for decoding SPARCs, has been proven to be asymptotically capacity-achieving for the AWGN channel. In this paper, we refine the as...

Constant Query Locally Decodable Codes against a Computationally Bounded Adversary

We consider the problem of Locally Decodable Codes against an adversary that is computationally bounded in terms of running time. Many times the computational limitations of the adversary help in designing better codes. In this paper we prove (using some standard cryptographic assumptions) that in the case of constant query locally decodable codes the computational constraint does not make the ...

Not Just an Empty Threat: Subgame-Perfect Equilibrium in Repeated Games Played by Computationally Bounded Players

We study the problem of finding a subgame-perfect equilibrium in repeated games. In earlier work [Halpern, Pass and Seeman 2014], we showed how to efficiently find an (approximate) Nash equilibrium if assuming that players are computationally bounded (and making standard cryptographic hardness assumptions); in contrast, as demonstrated in the work of Borgs et al. [2010], unless we restrict to c...
